T.C. Williams’ sophomore swagger proved too much for West Potomac to handle in its 6-1 victory on a warm and pleasant Friday night.

“It was a great team effort,” said Titan sophomore defender Jay Whitmire.

Led by a host of underclassmen, the Titans seemed poised to win from the opening face-off.

“It feels good,” said Titan sophomore midfield Ben Goodwin.

Added sophomore attack Jimmy Carragher: “It was good to get a win. We’re not in the basement anymore.”

T.C. Williams (2-7 overall, 1-3 Patriot District) controlled the
ball most of the first half, and just a few minutes into the game Titan sophomore attack Robin Bomberger put his team on the scoreboard
first. But one goal was not enough for Bomberger, who netted another with 3 minutes, 18 seconds left in the first quarter.

Bomberger said his favorite play of the game was his one-on-one time against the Wolverines’ goalie: “He was coming out of their cage because there were no defensemen, and I faked high then wrapped it around his body.”

Defending most of the first half, the Wolverines (0-5, 0-2) had many opportunities for hits and senior midfield Malcolm Stephens and junior defense J.P. Marinelli would not disappoint as they laid out some huge blows.

But it was the Titans who won the battle as both Whitmire and Goodwin each added a goal in the second quarter to give their team a 4-0 edge at half time.

“Basketball has helped me a lot on offense,” Whitmire said. “Foot-work definitely, you know … my bounce.”
   
West Potomac’s offense finally woke up in the third quarter. The Wolverines were the aggressors, making nice passes and keeping the Titan defense on their heels. That hard work finally paid off in the fourth quarter when sophomore attack Jon Lazenby put the Wolverines on the board for the first time on the night.

But T.C. Williams turned the intensity back up after Lazenby’s goal and Carragher added a quick score of his own. The Titans stayed aggressive to finish the game with senior attack Dennis Barrett scoring with just :02 seconds left in the game.

Loudoun County Boys Lacrosse Wins on Road at T.C. Williams

Alexandria (Apr. 8, 2009) – The Loudoun County High School boys lacrosse team got back into the win column Tuesday as they defeated TC Williams, 10-7. 

After a long bus ride, the Raiders started fast, taking a 4-0 lead. County held off a late surge by TC Williams to claim the victory. 

Offensively the Raiders were lead by Luke Driscoll with 4 goals and Andrew Newton with 3. Other points were scored by Peyton Stone (2 goals) and Chris Cameron (1 goal).
